وليلةٍand a night أرشفتْنيshe made me sip ظَلْمَthe saliva منone who ظَلَمَاwronged me
وليلةٍ أرشفتْني ظَلْمَ من ظَلَمَا
ونوَّلَتْنيand she granted me منfrom الطَّيْفthe dream-phantom المُلِمّvisiting لَماthe lips’ duskiness
ونوَّلَتْني من الطَّيْف المُلِمّ لَما
And a night made me sip the saliva of one who wronged me,
and granted me the dusky lips of the visiting dream-phantom.
ولوand had درىhe known أننيthat I فيin النومsleep فُزتُI won بهhim
ولو درى أنني في النوم فُزتُ به
مِنْout of بُخلِهhis stinginess ثمthen حاولتُI sought الرُّقادslumber لَماhe would have denied it
مِنْ بُخلِه ثم حاولتُ الرُّقاد لَما
And had he known that I had won him in sleep,
and had I then sought slumber, he would have denied it out of stinginess.
