واللهِby God لوeven if كانتwere الدنياthe world بأجْمعهاin its entirety
واللهِ لو كانت الدنيا بأجْمعها
تُبْقيspares عليناus ويأتيand comes رِزقُهاits sustenance رَغَدَاabundantly
تُبْقي علينا ويأتي رِزقُها رَغَدَا
By God, even if the world in its entirety
By God, if all the world could stay
spared us and its sustenance came in abundance,
With us, its bounty ours for aye,
ماnot كانwould be مِنof حقِّthe right حُرٍّa free man أنto يَذِلَّabase himself لهاto it
ما كان مِن حقِّ حُرٍّ أن يَذِلَّ لها
فكيفso how وهيَwhile it is مَتاعٌan enjoyment يَضْمَحِلُّvanishes غداtomorrow
فكيف وهيَ مَتاعٌ يَضْمَحِلُّ غدا
it would not befit a free man to abase himself before it;
No freeman would for it decay;
how then, when it is but a pleasure that will vanish tomorrow?
How then, when 'tis a toy some day?
