With greater yearning for what she left behind on the day she departed—
More yearning for what she left the day she departed—
the nest, a life of contentment, and companions—
The nest, the contented life, and the companion,

my youth passes from me toward one whose absence
And bygone youth—than I am for one whose parting
is my death, and meeting whom, should I die, would raise me.
Is my death, and whose meeting, should I die, would resurrect me.

What becomes of one whose intimate companions withdraw,
And how fares one whose intimate companions are far away,
leaving him to spend morn and eve among the worst of company?
Spending morning and evening among the worst of companions?

Indeed, the face of a savage lion baring its teeth
And surely a lion's face, fiercely baring its teeth,
is lovelier than the face of a grinning enemy.
Is fairer than the face of an enemy feigning a friendly smile.

He reaches out a hand, gesturing a greeting;
He holds out fingers in a gesture of greeting—
justice has ruled concerning it: if only it were held out to a sawyer.
Justice would pass judgment on them, were they held out to a sawyer.
فهاso here أناI am حتىuntil يُبشِرbrings glad tidings اللهُGod مُنعِماًbestowing favor
بقربِكُمُof nearness to you للإنسwith humankind غيرُnot مُباشِرmingling
So here I remain until God, in His bounty, gladdens me
So here I am, until God graciously brings glad tidings
with your nearness, keeping no company with humankind.
Of nearness to you, keeping apart from humankind.
