حمراءُ تَكْثُف للعقولِ فِعالها
أبداًalways وَتَلْطُفand become gentle للنفوسto souls طِباعهاits qualities
أبداً وَتَلْطُف للنفوس طِباعها
A red wine whose effects cloud minds,
Redness intensifies minds in its function
always, yet whose nature is gentle to souls.
And gentles souls in their nature forever
شمسٌa sun لشمسِto the sun of العقلِreason منهاfrom it ظُلمةٌdarkness
شمسٌ لشمسِ العقلِ منها ظُلمةٌ
منfrom حيثُwhere يظهرappears فيin الخدودthe cheeks شُعاعهاits radiance
من حيثُ يظهر في الخدود شُعاعها
A sun that brings darkness to the sun of reason,
A sun to the sun of reason it is darkness
even as its radiance appears in the cheeks.
In that its rays appear on the cheeks
أمُّmother of الخبائثِevils مُستطابٌdelightful دَرُّهاher milk
أمُّ الخبائثِ مُستطابٌ دَرُّها
إنّindeed الفِصالweaning منfrom الهمومcares رِضَاعهاsuckling at her
إنّ الفِصال من الهموم رِضَاعها
The mother of evils—her milk is delightful;
Mother of evils, her pearl is deemed good
indeed, to suckle at her is to be weaned from cares.
Verily separation from worries is its nursing
