O my eye, pour forth, and do not stint,
My eyes overflow, do not be stingy
for you have not given freely of tears.
For towards tears, you have not been frugal

And be generous with your tears, and weep,
With your tears make my generosity flow
like a river-channel gushing into a brook,
Like the tide on the streams

For the best of those who the bereaved mourn
and the lord, mighty and most excellent,
The most virtuous, most excellent master

Of lofty glory and high pillars
neither a base fellow nor a coward.
No faint-hearted or weak-willed man

He excels in close combat on the morning of the battle-cry,
Who excels in battle at daybreak
a guardian of honor who never shrank back.
Defender of truth, he did not waver

As though his enemies, whenever he appears,
The enemies when they appear
fear a tawny lion, father of cubs,
They fear the onslaught of the valiant father of cubs

proud among lions, possessed of a mane,
With the courage of a fierce lion in his prime
who guarded the valley-bend, so none camped there for fear of him.
He protected the fearful from it, did not take it lightly

Shielding the living on the day of reckoning

And the neighbor, guest and lodger

And like the bending of the tide
its deep flood seething like a cauldron,
Seething sea spray like a cauldron

kicking in rage as a restive horse kicks,
Billowing waves of rage, spears of sunbeams
you countered in the foremost ranks.
You have mingled in ancestors of old

Let winter's dependents weep for you,
To weep for you, the children of winter
when the milkless she-camels seek shelter from the north wind.
When the north winds take refuge from the cold snap
