وَاِبكي لِصَخرٍ فَلَن يَكفيكِهِ كافِ
O eye, weep with tears that never run dry.
O eye shed tears other than outpouring
And weep for Sakhr; no one can mourn him in your stead.
And cry for a rock that cannot suffice you as confidant

Be like a gray dove among the boughs of her thicket,
Be like an ostrich in the thickets of its exile
Or a calling bird, loud-voiced among the palm branches.
Or a shouter in the fronds of date palms, crying out

And weep for a raincloud brimming with rain,
And cry over one exulting in youth thoughtlessly
Thundering when ancestral honors dwindle;
When considerations are treated lightly, fickle

And for one who lodges the guest when a rumbling wind blows,
And the house of the guest when tempestuous
Hurling hard hail, swift-sinking and slow-moving;
It throws with deaf crash, swift sinking, crumbling

A father to orphans whenever winter descends,
The orphan's protector when harsh year descends
And in battle, steadfast, never trembling.
And in the rowboats anchored, steadfast, not arid
