أُبَكِّ أَبي عَمراً بِعَينٍ غَزيرَةٍ

قَليلٍ إِذا نامَ الخَلِيُّ هُجودُها
I mourn my father, Amr, with an eye overflowing with tears,
My father weeps copious tears for Umar
whose slumber is scant when the carefree one sleeps.
When the protector sleeps meekly at night
وَصِنوَيَّand my two brothers لاnot أَنسىI forget مُعاوِيَةَMuawiya الَّذيwho
وَصِنوَيَّ لا أَنسى مُعاوِيَةَ الَّذي

لَهُ مِن سَراةِ الحَرَّتَينِ وُفودُها
And my two brothers—I do not forget Muawiya, who
And I will not forget Muawiyah
receives delegations from the nobles of the two lava plains;
To whom pilgrims of both holy sites make their way

بِساحَتِهِ الأَبطالُ قَزمٌ يَقودُها
and Sakhr—who is like Sakhr when he goes forth in the morning,
And Sakhra - who is like Sakhra when at dawn
with the heroes in his arena mere dwarfs whom he leads?
The heroes, resolute, march to the battlefield under his command
فَذَلِكَso that ياO هِندُHind الرَزِيَّةُthe calamity فَاِعلَميso know

That, O Hind, is the calamity—know it—
That, O Hind, is the doer of great deeds, so know
and the fires of war when their fuel is kindled.
And the fires of war when its fuel is lit blaze
