وَلَستُand I do not أَرىsee شَيئاًanything عَلىthrough الدَهرِtime خالِداeverlasting
Nothing endures but the face of our King,
and I see nothing everlasting through time.

Indeed, the day of Ibn al-Sharid and his clan
laid waste the great serving bowls and the firmly standing cauldrons.

So let none approach the land except one who steals in,
fearing a wrathful army at sunrise,

at some night's end, their mouths crammed with iron bits.
فَقَدfor indeed زاحَhas fallen away عَنّاfrom us اللَومُthe blame إِذsince تَرَكواthey left لَناto us
أَروماًArum فَآراماًthen Aram فَماءًthen water بِوارِداat Warid
For blame has fallen away from us, since they left us
Arum, then Aram, then water at Warid.
وَنَحنُand we قَتَلناkilled هاشِماًHashim وَاِبنَand the son of أُختِهِhis sister

وَلاand no صُلحَpeace حَتّىuntil نَستَقيدَwe capture in requital الخَرائِداthe secluded maidens
And we killed Hashim and his sister's son,
and no peace until we take the secluded maidens captive in requital.
فَقَدfor indeed جَرَتِhave prevailed العاداتُthe customs أَنّاthat we لَدىamid الوَغىbattle
سَنَظفَرُwe shall triumph وَالإِنسانُand humankind يَبغيseeks الفَوائِداgains
For long custom has held that we, amid battle,
shall triumph; and humankind seeks gain.
