I remembered Sakhr when a dove sang,

Loud-voiced, cooing on a branch in the thicket.

So I kept weeping in response to her, with a grieving woman's tears,

And my heart ached at what she made me remember.

She reminds me of Sakhr, though between me and him lie

Stone slabs and rocks and a barren wilderness.

I see Time shooting—its arrows never miss.

And none whom Time has slain can return.

For if Sakhr the generous now lies buried,

He did once bring harm and benefit in this world.
