O Ṣakhr, who is there to face the calamities of time?
O Sakhr, who will face the calamities of time?
Or who will make the rugged way easy for its rider?
Or who will ease the way for the rider over rugged terrain?
كُنتَyou were المُفَرِّجَthe reliever of ماwhatever يَنوبُbefalls فَقَدand indeed
كُنتَ المُفَرِّجَ ما يَنوبُ فَقَد
أَصبَحتَyou have become لاnot تُحليyou sweeten وَلاand not تُمريyou embitter
أَصبَحتَ لا تُحلي وَلا تُمري
You were the dispeller of whatever hardship befell; but now—
You were the one who relieved whatever befell; yet
you have become unable either to sweeten life or make it wholesome.
now you neither sweeten nor embitter.

Dust is heaped upon his beautiful features,
and over the fresh bloom of his radiant face.
and upon the freshness of his radiant face.
