    I mourn my father, Amr, with an eye overflowing with tears,

    whose slumber is scant when the carefree one sleeps.

    لَهُ مِن سَراةِ الحَرَّتَينِ وُفودُها

    And my two brothers—I do not forget Muawiya, who

    receives delegations from the nobles of the two lava plains;

    and Sakhr—who is like Sakhr when he goes forth in the morning,

    with the heroes in his arena mere dwarfs whom he leads?

    That, O Hind, is the calamity—know it—

    and the fires of war when their fuel is kindled.
