O you who reproach me for love—indeed,

by God, if you had borne of it as

I have borne of tender love, I would not

have reproached you for love; so leave me and what

I seek. I do not know why

I fell in love, except that, while

I was at the palace gate, for some of what

I sought from their palace, when someone shot—

one like a gazelle—with arrows; so neither

of his two arrows missed. Yet

his eyes were his two arrows: whenever

he wished to slay me with them, he greeted me.
