نَصَحتُكَI advised you ياO مُحَمَّدُMuhammad إِنَّindeed نُصحيmy counsel
نَصَحتُكَ يا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّ نُصحي
رَخيصٌinexpensive ياO رَفيقيmy companion لِلصَديقِfor the friend
رَخيصٌ يا رَفيقي لِلصَديقِ
I advised you, O Muhammad; indeed, my counsel
I advised you, O Muhammad, though my counsel
costs little, O my companion, for a friend.
Is cheap, my friend, for a true friend's sake,
فَلَمyet did not تَقبَلyou accept وَكَمand how much مِنof نُصحِcounsel وُدٍّaffection
فَلَم تَقبَل وَكَم مِن نُصحِ وُدٍّ
أُضيعَwas wasted فَحادَso he strayed عَنfrom وَضَحِclear part of الطَريقِthe path
أُضيعَ فَحادَ عَن وَضَحِ الطَريقِ
Yet you did not accept it—and how much loving counsel
Yet you did not accept it, and how much good advice
was wasted, so he strayed from the clear path!
Has been wasted, and one turned from the clear path.
