وَماAnd never بَلَغَreached الإِنعامُbeneficence فيin النَفعِbenefit غايَةًan utmost degree
وَما بَلَغَ الإِنعامُ في النَفعِ غايَةً
مِنَof الفَضلِexcellence إِلّاexcept that مَبلَغُthe reach الشُكرِgratitude أَفضَلُbetter
مِنَ الفَضلِ إِلّا مَبلَغُ الشُكرِ أَفضَلُ
And never has beneficence reached, in doing good, a height
The gifts of bounty have attained no goal, however high,
Of excellence that gratitude's reach does not surpass.
Of excellence, but thanks outstrips them all.
وَماAnd never بَلَغَتreached أَيديhands المُنيلينَthe givers بَسطَةًa reach
وَما بَلَغَت أَيدي المُنيلينَ بَسطَةً
مِنَin الطَولِbounty إِلّاexcept that بَسطَةُthe reach الشُكرِgratitude أَطوَلlonger
مِنَ الطَولِ إِلّا بَسطَةُ الشُكرِ أَطوَل
And never have the hands of givers reached so far
And none of those who stretch their hands in hope
In bounty that gratitude's reach is not farther.
Have reached a hand so far, but gratitude's is longer still.
وَماAnd never رَجَحَتtipped the balance بِالمَرءِfor a man يَوماًever صَنيعَةٌa favor
وَما رَجَحَت بِالمَرءِ يَوماً صَنيعَةٌ
عَلىover المَرءِthe man إِلّاexcept that وَهيَand it is بِالشُكرِthrough gratitude أَثقَلweightier
عَلى المَرءِ إِلّا وَهيَ بِالشُكرِ أَثقَل
And never has a favor tipped the balance for one man
And never has a man's good deed availed
Over another without weighing still heavier through gratitude.
Against himself, weighed with his thanks, to tip the scale.
