صَلُبَgrew harsh الهِجاءُsatire عَلىtoward اِمرِىءٍa man مِنfrom قَومِناour people
إِذwhen حادَhe strayed عَنfrom سُنَنِthe ways of السَبيلِthe path وَحاداand veered aside
Satire grew harsh toward a man of our people,
Harsh is the censure upon a man of my tribe
when he strayed from the ways of the path and veered aside.
When he strays from the trodden path going astray
أَعطىhe gave قَليلاًa little ثُمَّthen أَقلَعَhe stopped نادِماًregretful

He gave a little, then stopped, regretful;
He gives little then stops regretfully
and indeed, sometimes a miser errs and gives generously.
While a miser may err then become generous
