I have a heart love-struck, singular in its nature;
I have a love-mad heart of a rare disposition.
in passion, a supple figure works its spell upon it.
The supple of figure has his way with it in love,

قد شب عقل الكعل هو والرقيب
A heart like mine—believe me—I have never seen;
And I have never seen a lecher like my heart;
the stocky man’s mind has caught fire—his and the watchman’s.
It and the watcher have set the kaʿl’s mind ablaze.

قال خاطري جي كذا هوذا الحبيب
Whenever I tried to disguise my love,
And whenever I dissemble in love,
my inner voice said: “Come this way—behold, the beloved:
My inner self says, ‘Come this way—here is the beloved!’

their daggered glance effacing the very bones.”
Those of Khanjafir; their glance erases bones.
