ثَناء الفَتى يَبقى وَيَفنى ثَراؤه

ثَناء الفَتى يَبقى وَيَفنى ثَراؤه

فَلا تَكتَسب بِالمال شَيئاً سوى الذكر

فَلا تَكتَسب بِالمال شَيئاً سوى الذكر

A young man's praise endures, while his wealth perishes.

So acquire with wealth nothing but renown.

فَقَد أَبلت الأَيام كَعباً وَخاتماً

فَقَد أَبلت الأَيام كَعباً وَخاتماً

وَذكرهما غض جَديد إِلى الحَشر

وَذكرهما غض جَديد إِلى الحَشر

For the days have worn away Kaʿb and Khātim,

Yet their memory is fresh and new until the Resurrection.
