فَلَماso when أَنthat تَلاقَيناwe met
فَلَما أَن تَلاقَينا
لِتَأنيبfor rebuke وَاغضاءِand forbearance
لِتَأنيب وَاغضاءِ
Then, when we met
When we met
For rebuke and forbearance,
For rebuke and reproach
بَدَتappeared فيin العَينthe eye مِنَّتهhis favor

The signs of hatred showed

So I said to him—already choking
I said, though he filled
On him were my soul and my limbs—
My soul with bitterness
