O you, like faludh pudding in the redness of your cheek,

and the lawzinaj almond confection of thirsty souls!

You are the hearts' jawzinaj walnut confection, and in softness

like the softness of white khabisa pudding.

You have returned, besotted with a sakbaj of affection,

    after jawadhiba beside roast meat.

O breeze of cooking pots on a wedding day,

and you, like a yellow honeycomb!

You are more delectable to hearts than butter

with Narsiyan dates after the midday meal.

The envious were fed dishes of sorrow

in bowls of grief and ailments.

My heart has boiled since my home grew distant from you,

like the boiling of pots beside the fire.

My heart went mad because they shattered the bowls

of my joy—the ladles of rancor.

    جَد بِوَصلِ يَكبِتُ بِهِ أَعدائي

    So favor the lovesick one with a day;

be generous with union by which my enemies are humbled.

And favor the sorrowful one with a zamawurd roll

    of union that heals ailments.
