She unpicked love's seams through estrangement,

    when rejection's needle pricked me.

So the heart, from the tightness of its trousers,

trips me up on the drawstring of strain.

Separation has made me bear, O mantle,

my longing for you upon my shoulder.

My eye's buttons are fastened to you

by the buttonhole of tears upon my cheek.

O thimble of the heart, O its collar,

remembrance of the promise tormented me.

What it knows of its union has already been severed

    by parting's keen-edged shears.

O waistband of the soul, and O its hem,

I have no alternative to union with you.

And O collar of my joy, and O

neck-opening of my life—she has come loose from my pledge.
