You are to Mahmud as the family of Muhammad,

You are to Mahmoud like the family of Muhammad,

matching in deeds and names.

Alike in deeds and names,

يتلو أَبا بكرٍ على حسناته

يتلو أَبا بكرٍ على حسناته

عمرُ الممدَّحُ في سناً وسناءِ

عمرُ الممدَّحُ في سناً وسناءِ

Abu Bakr is followed in his good deeds by

Abu Bakr is succeeded in his virtues,

Umar, much praised for radiance and eminence.

Umar is praised for his years and glory,

ويليهِ عثمانُ المُرجّى للعُلى

ويليهِ عثمانُ المُرجّى للعُلى

وعليٌّ المأمولُ في الأْواءِ

وعليٌّ المأمولُ في الأْواءِ

And after him comes Uthman, looked to for greatness,

Followed by Uthman, hoped for the highest place,

and Ali, looked to in hardship.

And Ali, expected during hardships,

وتقبل الحسن الممجّد مجدهُم

وتقبل الحسن الممجّد مجدهُم

فهمُ ذوو الإحسانِ والنّعماءِ

فهمُ ذوو الإحسانِ والنّعماءِ

And al-Hasan, the exalted, received their glory;

Al-Hasan, glorified, accepted their glory,

for they are men of beneficence and bounty.

As they were benevolent and generous,

فرعتْ لمجد الدين إخوته الذُّرا

فرعتْ لمجد الدين إخوته الذُّرا

دون الورى في المجدِ والعلياءِ

دون الورى في المجدِ والعلياءِ

For Majd al-Din, his brothers have scaled the summits,

For the glory of the faith his brothers branched out,

alone among mankind in glory and eminence:

Below the world in glory and sublimity,

مِن سابقٍ كرماً وشمسٍ ساده

مِن سابقٍ كرماً وشمسٍ ساده

شرفاً وبدرِ دُجنّةٍ وبهاءِ

شرفاً وبدرِ دُجنّةٍ وبهاءِ

among them, one foremost in generosity, and a sun that surpassed him

From an open-handed predecessor and a sun that gives him nobility,

in honor, and a full moon of darkness and splendor.

Honor and a bright full moon and splendor,

سُرُجُ الهدى سحب لنّدى شهبُ النُّهى

سُرُجُ الهدى سحب لنّدى شهبُ النُّهى

أُسْدُ الحروبِ ضراغمُ الهيجاءِ

أُسْدُ الحروبِ ضراغمُ الهيجاءِ

Lamps of guidance, clouds of bounty, meteors of wisdom;

The lamp of guidance drew clouds of favors,

lions of war, fierce lions of battle.

The lion of wars, the lamps of turmoil.
