أَياO شرفَSharaf (honor) الدِّينal-Din (the faith) إنَّindeed الشَّتاwinter
أَيا شرفَ الدِّين إنَّ الشَّتا
بكافاتهِwith its kāfs (letters k) كفَّwarded off آفاتهِits afflictions
بكافاتهِ كفَّ آفاتهِ
O Sharaf al-Din, winter indeed
O honor of religion, winter with its rewards
has warded off its afflictions with its kāfs.
Has stopped its harms,
وكفكَand your hand منfrom كرمٍgenerosity كافُهاits kāf (letter k)
وكفكَ من كرمٍ كافُها
لقدindeed كفلتit has guaranteed ليfor me بكافاتهِwith its kāfs (letters k)
لقد كفلت لي بكافاتهِ
And your hand, whose kāf comes from generosity,
And your generosity sufficed me,
has indeed guaranteed me winter’s kāfs.
You have provided me with its rewards,
وإنّكَand you are indeed منone whose عرفهhis kindness شكرناour gratitude
وإنّكَ من عرفه شكرنا
غداhas become عاجزاًincapable عنof مكافاتهِrepaying it
غدا عاجزاً عن مكافاتهِ
And you are one whose kindness our gratitude
And you, we've thanked those who knew you,
has become incapable of repaying.
Tomorrow they'll be unable to reward you.
