مولايَ ضجرتُ من لزومِ البيت
كالميتِlike the dead man وماand how أَوحشَdesolate بيتthe house of المَيْتِthe dead man
كالميتِ وما أَوحشَ بيت المَيْتِ
My lord, I have grown weary of staying at home,
My Lord, I am weary of staying at home
Like a dead man—and how desolate is a dead man's home!
Like the dead, though not so lonesome as their tomb.
لاnot تلفتُturns away منfrom حظيmy fortune ليتاًan 'if only' ليتيmy 'if only'
لا تلفتُ من حظي ليتاً ليتي

هل يملأ قنديلي يوماً زيتي
My 'if only' turns no 'if only' away from my fortune.
I do not complain of the turns of fate to me,
Will my oil one day fill my lamp?
Will my lamp one day be filled to the brim with oil?
