إمامٌ بحكمِ اللّهِ في خَلْقهِ يَقضي
Indeed, he has spread beneficence and justice across the earth—
He spread justice and equity upon the earth
an imam who judges God's creatures according to God's decree.
An imam ruling by Allah's command amongst His creation

He bestows death and wishes fulfilled: his ally
His existence benefits both allies and enemies
now fulfills his wishes, while his envier dies.
For his allies he rules, while his enemies perish

Awe-inspiring, he makes eyes lower before meeting him;
One whose awe makes eyes avert meeting him
he lowers his gaze in modesty, yet never looks away from what is right.
Eyes look away in shyness, though he does not deviate from truth

Is not Allah's word regarding Yusuf the aided "Thus did We establish Yusuf in the land"
'Thus We established Yusuf in the land'?

Upon his kingdom a seal more majestic than excellence
sets upon his kingdom a seal too exalted to be broken.

His firm resolves are cutting swords amid calamities;

when counsels fail to dispel them, those swords press on,

And determination unveiling the blossoms of events
and resolution that deflowers virgin calamities.

An imam for whom whatever angers God is displeasing,
And whatever does not please God, does not please him
and nothing but what pleases God pleases him.

You lulled God's servants to sleep in safety, but did not let
No room for enemies' eyes to kohl themselves in winking
the enemies' eyes, through terror, adorn themselves with the kohl of sleep.

While the star of loyalists rises, never to set
while the allies' star rises, never falling.

the deserts' bosoms are too narrow for them when mustered.

I placed my hopes in the Commander of the Faithful, with the hope of one
Whose every aim leads to the fulfilment of his hopes
whose pursuit, through him, reaches every desired goal.

When fortune does not avail, avarice is useless
if fortune does not help, exhortation has no use.

If this sea was turbulent in its waves

My tongue and heart are devoted to you and to praise
In praising you, you have blackened me in creation
of you: behold, one part of me envies another.

Blackening pages with your praise has indeed made me a master among mankind;
Not all poetry equals mine about you
so I returned with a face whitened by allegiance to you.

Not every poem is like my poetry in your praise;
Glory was not until poetry of Ibn Hani' fell
who would compare a mature, seasoned camel with an exhausted one?
While the brilliant Sunnah has glory over doctrinal innovation

My poetry gained honor only when the poetry of Ibn Hani' was humbled;
and the radiant Sunna is exalted above rejectionism.
