جامعُreuniter of الشّمْلِthe scattered company بعدَafter طولِthe long duration of الفراقِseparation
جامعُ الشّمْلِ بعدَ طولِ الفراقِ
للمحبيّنfor the lovers كافلٌa guarantor بالتلاقِof reunion
للمحبيّن كافلٌ بالتلاقِ
He who reunites those parted after long separation
The reunion after long separation
guarantees reunion to lovers.
Brings the lovers together again
ولعلَّand perhaps الأيامَthe days تسمَحُwill grant بالوصwith union (word continues)
ولعلَّ الأيامَ تسمَحُ بالوص
لِcompletion of 'union' ونَقضيand we fulfill لُبانةَthe heartfelt desire of المشتاقِthe yearning lover
لِ ونَقضي لُبانةَ المشتاقِ
And perhaps the days will grant union,
Perhaps the days will allow us to meet
and we shall fulfill the yearning lover’s desire.
And fulfill the longing of yearning souls
ياO أَخلائيmy dear friends الكرامَthe noble المضاهيthose who rival (word continues)
يا أَخلائي الكرامَ المضاهي
نَcompletion of 'those who rival' بطيبِwith the goodness of العُروقِthe roots; ancestry طيبَthe goodness of العِراقِIraq
نَ بطيبِ العُروقِ طيبَ العِراقِ
O my noble friends, who rival
My noble brothers, your kindness surpasses
the goodness of Iraq with the goodness of your roots,
The sweetness of Iraq's pure spirit
ياO صبوراًone who is patient علىin enduring الصّبابةِpassionate longing بعديafter my departure
يا صبوراً على الصّبابةِ بعدي
لكَfor you طولُthe length of البقاءِlife ماas long as أَناI باقِremain alive
لكَ طولُ البقاءِ ما أَنا باقِ
O you who patiently endure passionate longing in my absence,
You endured separation after I left
may you live long, as long as I live.
May you live long while I am no more
فأجرْنيso protect me منfrom النّوىseparation بالتلاقيthrough reunion
فأجرْني من النّوى بالتلاقي
وارثِand have pity ليon me إذsince لاقيتَyou have faced ماwhat أَناI لاقface
وارثِ لي إذ لاقيتَ ما أَنا لاق
So protect me from separation through reunion,
Save me from pining with a reunion
and pity me, since you have faced what I face.
And inherit what I have when we meet
