Who is there for glory, who for the summits, who for guidance,

to defend it? Who for battle, who for bounty?

He sought permanence for his dominion in the life to come,

since he did not trust this passing world's dominion to endure.

    وبسيفهِ فُتحتْ بلادُ السّاحلِ

    A sea whose bounty turned the land into a sea;

and by his sword the coastal lands were conquered.

He in whose days the people of truth

would, through his might, strike down the people of falsehood.

And his conquests—Jerusalem among their maidens—

have left him distinction without a rival.

I never sought a downpour from anyone but you,

and saw your bounty put the downpour to shame.

So may God's favor water you, for I

am not content with the watering of the pouring clouds.
