غيرُother than العويلِwailing وحسرةِand the anguish of المتأسّفِthe sorrowful one
After your day, the tormented, ailing one has nothing
After your day, meaning has no substance,
but wailing and the mourner's anguish.
Only lamentations and the regret of the remorseful.

How bold are the events! How they advanced

Upon the formidable lion without fear!

Who has ever seen the fierce lion as prey,
Who has seen the lion as prey?
or beheld the radiant dawn hidden from sight?
Or seen the brilliant dawn and it had vanished?

Who but he stands firm before the armored warriors, if
None stands firm at times of tribulation except
their feet slip beneath them on the battlefield?
Those whose feet do not slip at the final reckoning.

How radiant the beginning would have been, had it not been veiled!
It would not have been best for beginnings had glory not faded,
How resplendent the sun would have been, had it not been eclipsed!
Nor would the sun be most radiant had it not been eclipsed.

I never feared that a calamity might strike
Never did I fear reproach would blame you,
one day without you dispelling its anguish.
For you did not shy from its burden.

The days of your life were always apportioned
The days of your life were divided
to God, between devotion and seeking knowledge:
By God between worship and knowing Him.

Verses or looking into the Holy Book.

Generosity and valor were bereaved, in you, of a Hatim,
Generosity and valor have been lost in you
and a Haydar; and forbearance, of an Ahnaf in you.
As in Hatim and Heydar, and forbearance as in Ahnaf.

You won kingship, with its sorrow, through power,
You triumphed with sovereignty but grieved
and departed from it with the conduct of the self-restrained.
Over weakness, and withdrew with the grace of the high-minded.

And you, O lion of Muhammad's faith, were described
You were described, O lion in the faith of Muhammad,
in praise that no king had ever received.
With a eulogy no ruler has been described.

And you followed all the traces of the sacred law;
You embodied all the maxims of Holy Law,
and whoever follows the sacred law has indeed found guidance.
And one who yearns for the Law followed your guidance.

Did you disdain your world when you came to know it,
Did you disdain your world when you recognized it?
then turn your face away as one who knows and disdains?
Would that you had turned toward the aloof gnostic!

O Nasir al-Din, seek refuge in patient endurance,
O defender of the faith, seek refuge in patience
which brings you near the good pleasure of the Lord who draws you close.
Until you attain the pleasure of a Lord brought near.

And take solace for his loss, Najm al-Din, receiving congratulations
May the star of faith be honored through you, triumphing
for all time on Egypt's kingship and on Yusuf.
Forever with the rule of Egypt and Joseph.
لاnot تستطيعُyou can سوىother than الدَّعاءِprayer فكلُّناfor all of us

You can do nothing but pray, for all of us
None of us can do more than supplicate,
are charged only with what lies within our power.
Since none is burdened beyond their capacity.
