على رَغْم أَنْفي جاعلاً قبرَه قلبي
May God water a man—the pupil of my eye—whom I buried,
May God water the pupil of my eye, whom I buried,
against my will, making my heart his grave.
Against my will, making my heart his grave.

Do not suppose that the dust is his tomb;
So do not think that the earth is his tomb;
for his dwelling is among the breastbones, not in the soil.
For his dwelling is between the bones of my breast, not in the dust.
