إقنعْBe content ولاand do not تطمعْcovet فإنَّfor indeed الفتىthe young man
إقنعْ ولا تطمعْ فإنَّ الفتى
كمالهُhis perfection فيin عزَّةِdignity النّفسِthe self
كمالهُ في عزَّةِ النّفسِ
Be content and do not covet, for a young man's
Be content, do not be greedy, for the young man’s
perfection lies in self-respect.
Perfection is in the dignity of the self.
وإنّماand only ينقصُwanes بدرُfull moon الدُّجَىthe darkness
وإنّما ينقصُ بدرُ الدُّجَى
لأَخذهِbecause of its taking الضّوءthe light منfrom الشّمسِthe sun
لأَخذهِ الضّوء من الشّمسِ
And the full moon of night wanes only
The full moon at night only wanes
because it takes its light from the sun.
