هنيئاً لمصر حَوز يوسف ملكها

هنيئاً لمصر حَوز يوسف ملكها

بأمرٍ من الرَّحمنِ قد كان مَوْقوتا

بأمرٍ من الرَّحمنِ قد كان مَوْقوتا

Joy to Egypt at Yusuf's gaining her kingdom,

Congratulations to Egypt, Joseph has obtained its kingdom

By a decree from the Most Merciful, set for an appointed time.

By a command from the Merciful that was destined

وما كان فيها قتلُ يوسف شاوراً

وما كان فيها قتلُ يوسف شاوراً

يماثلُ إلاّ قتل داود جالوتا

يماثلُ إلاّ قتل داود جالوتا

And Yusuf's killing of Shawar there did not

And what happened in it, killing Joseph, was not a consultation

Resemble anything but David's killing of Goliath.

It only resembles killing David Goliath

وقلتُ لقلبي أَبشر اليوم بالمُنى

وقلتُ لقلبي أَبشر اليوم بالمُنى

فقد نلتَ ما أَمّلتَ بلْ حزتَ ماشِيتا

فقد نلتَ ما أَمّلتَ بلْ حزتَ ماشِيتا

And I said to my heart: Rejoice today in hopes fulfilled,

And I said to my heart, rejoice today with the wish

For you have attained what you hoped for—nay, gained what you wished.

For you have obtained what you hoped for, rather, you have taken what you wanted
