She saw a man whose ample flesh had been wasted away by

the pursuit of high honors and the attainment of noble virtues—

slender-waisted and lean, as though his clothes

hung upon a keen blade of Indian steel.

So I told her, “Do not be astonished, for I

count young men's fatness among their faults.”
