إذاwhen ارْتَحَلتْdeparts مِنْfrom سَاحِلِthe shore of البَحْرِthe sea رُفْقَةٌa band of travelers
إذا ارْتَحَلتْ مِنْ سَاحِلِ البَحْرِ رُفْقَةٌ
مُشَرِّقَةٌheading east هَاجَstirred الفُؤادَthe heart ارْتِحالُهاits departure
مُشَرِّقَةٌ هَاجَ الفُؤادَ ارْتِحالُها
When a band of travelers departs from the seashore,
heading east, its departure stirs the heart.
فإِنْand if لاَnot يُصَاحِبْهَاit accompanies them يُتْبِعْit follows بأَعْيُنٍwith eyes
فإِنْ لاَ يُصَاحِبْهَا يُتْبِعْ بأَعْيُنٍ
سَرِيعٍswift بِرَقْرَاقِwith the shimmer of الدُّمُوعِtears اكْتحَالُهاtheir being lined with kohl
سَرِيعٍ بِرَقْرَاقِ الدُّمُوعِ اكْتحَالُها
And if it does not accompany them, it follows them with eyes
quick to be kohled with shimmering tears.
