وَفَارَقْتُand I parted حَتَّىuntil مَاnot أُباليI care مِنَabout النَّوَىseparation
وَفَارَقْتُ حَتَّى مَا أُبالي مِنَ النَّوَى
وإنْand even if بَانَdeparted جِيرانٌneighbors عَلَيَّto me كِرامُdear
وإنْ بَانَ جِيرانٌ عَلَيَّ كِرامُ
And I have parted until separation no longer troubles me,
I parted from home and ceased to care where I pitched my tent
Even if neighbors dear to me depart.
And though generous neighbors settled near me here and there
فَقَدْfor indeed جَعَلتْhas begun نَفْسِيَmy soul عَلَىaround النَّأْيِseparation تَنْطَوِيfolds itself
فَقَدْ جَعَلتْ نَفْسِيَ عَلَى النَّأْيِ تَنْطَوِي
وَعَيْنيand my eye عَلَىdespite فَقْدِloss of الصَّدِيقِthe friend تَنَامُsleeps
وَعَيْني عَلَى فَقْدِ الصَّدِيقِ تَنَامُ
For my soul has begun to fold itself around separation,
I made my soul wrap solitude around itself for garment
And my eye sleeps despite the loss of a friend.
And over the loss of friends let my eyes feel sleep's sweet touch
