وَلَيْسَand is not فتَىa young man الفِتْيانِthe young men مَنْone who راحَwent out in the evening واغْتَدَىand went out in the morning
وَلَيْسَ فتَى الفِتْيانِ مَنْ راحَ واغْتَدَى
لِشُرْبِto drink صَبُوحٍa morning draught أَوْor لِشُرْبِto drink غَبوقِan evening draught
لِشُرْبِ صَبُوحٍ أَوْ لِشُرْبِ غَبوقِ
And the finest of young men is not he who goes out at evening and in the morning
The youth of youths is not one who went and took
To drink a morning draught or an evening draught;
To drink the morn's draught or evening's cup.
وَلَكنْbut rather فَتَىa young man الفِتْيانِthe young men مَنْone who رَاحَwent out in the evening واغْتَدَىand went out in the morning
وَلَكنْ فَتَى الفِتْيانِ مَنْ رَاحَ واغْتَدَى
لضَرِّto harm عَدُوٍّan enemy أَوْor لِنَفْعِto benefit صَدِيقِa friend
لضَرِّ عَدُوٍّ أَوْ لِنَفْعِ صَدِيقِ
But the finest of young men is he who goes out at evening and in the morning
But youth of youths is one who went and took
To harm an enemy or to benefit a friend.
To smite a foe or shield a friend.
