Dhukāʾ, the sun, rose, seeming in her radiance
A goblet escorted by the longing of breaths.
ماnot زالَceased يَرقىit climbs صاعِداًascending مُتَهادِياًswaying gently
حَتّىuntil هَوىit fell فَطَغىand so it overflowed عَلىover الأَغراسِthe plants
It kept climbing upward, swaying gently,
Until it fell and flooded the plants.
وَكَأَنَّand as though أَزهارَthe flowers الطَبيعَةِof nature كُلِّهاall of it

And all nature’s flowers seemed
Around her to share the sorrow of drinking companions.
