أَيُّهاO التائِهُlost wanderer خَفِّفlighten مِنfrom خُطاكyour footsteps
إِنَّindeed فيin القَبرِthe grave فُؤاداًa heart ماnot سَلاكhas forgotten you
O wanderer, soften your tread.
O lost wanderer, lighten your footsteps.
For in the grave lies a heart that has never forgotten you.
In the grave there is indeed a heart that has not forgotten you.
شَيَّعَescorted to burial الأَحلامَdreams فيin رَقدَتِهِits slumber
وَسَلاand forgot الكُلَّall وَلَمand did not يَذكُرremember سِواكanyone but you
It bade its dreams farewell in its sleep,
It escorted dreams to their burial in its slumber,
and forgot all others, remembering none but you.
And forgot all, remembering none but you.
وَإِذاand if نادَيتَهُyou summon it مِنfrom قَبرِهits grave
هَبsprang up فيin القَبرِthe grave مُجيباًanswering لِنِداكto your call
And if you called to it from its grave,
And if you summon it from its grave,
it would stir within the grave, answering your call.
It springs up in the grave, answering your call.

نَفخَةِthe blast of الصورِthe trumpet وَلكِنbut أَنto يَراكsee you
It does not yearn to behold Paradise at
It does not seek to see Paradise at
the blast of the Trumpet, but only to behold you.
The trumpet's blast, but to see you.
وَضَريحيand my tomb بَينَamong أَشجارِtrees of الأَراكِarak
فَتَعالَso come وَاِسقِهِand water it عَلّيperhaps I أَراكI see you
And my tomb is among the arak trees;
And my tomb lies among the arak trees;
so come and water it—perhaps I may see you.
So come and water it—perhaps I shall see you.
إِنif تَخَذتَyou have chosen اليَومَtoday غَيريsomeone other than me فيin الهَوىlove
فَأَناyet I لِلآنَto this day لَمhave not أَعشَقloved سِواكanyone but you
If today you have chosen another than me in love,
If today you have chosen someone else in love,
I, to this moment, have loved no one but you.
Yet I, to this day, have loved none but you.
هاتِفٌa voice فيin المَوتِdeath يَدعونيcalls me كَماas
كانَwas فيin الدُنياthis world إِلىto وَكرِthe nest of هَواكyour love
A voice in death calls me, just as
A voice calls me in death, as
it once called me in this world to the nest of your love.
It did in life, to the nest of your love.
