لما أتاه الذي أصبت به

لما أتاه الذي أصبت به

وأنشدوه إياه في شعري

When word of what had befallen me reached him,

When the one who caused my wounds came to me

And they recited it to him in my verse,

And they recited to him my verses about it

جاد بضعفي ما حل من غرمي

عفواً فزالت حرارة الصدر

He generously gave twice the amount of my debt that had fallen due,

He was generous in pardoning my injuries

Freely, and so the burning in my breast subsided.

Forgiving me, so my anguish departed

لأشكرن الذي مننت به

لأشكرن الذي مننت به

ما دمت حياً وطال لي عمري

ما دمت حياً وطال لي عمري

I shall surely thank you for what you have bestowed,

I will thank the one who bestowed this favor on me

As long as I remain alive and my life endures.
