لقد حثوا الجمال ليه

ربوا منا فلم يئلوا

Indeed, they urged the camels on to

flee from us—but they found no escape.

على أثارهن مقل

لص السربال معتمل

In their wake comes one

with tunic tucked up, striving hard.

وفيهم قلبك المتبو

ل بالحسناء مختبل

And among them is your love-stricken heart,

distraught over the beautiful woman.

مخففة بحمل حما

ئل الديباج والحلل

Lightly laden, bearing sashes

of brocade and fine robes.

أسائل عاصماً في السر

رِ أين تراهموا نزلوا

I ask ʿĀṣim in secret:

"Where do you think they have camped?"

فقال همُ قريب من

ك لو نفعوك إذ رحلوا

He said, "They are close to

you—if only they had helped you when they departed."
