لِبَعضِ التِجارِ أفسَدتَ مالي
Do you imagine me ever saying, one day,
Shall I ever say one day in my life
To one of the merchants, 'You have ruined my wealth'?
To some merchants, "You have ruined my wealth"?

Or do you imagine me saying, 'Where have they come from—
Or shall you see me say, "From where did

Or do you imagine me saying, 'O my steward,
Or shall you see me say, "O my servant,

Or do you imagine me passing atop a portico
Or shall you see me pass above a porch
Of mine, lofty, in a lofty chamber of my own:
That's too high for a session that's so high?

'Saddle up for me!'—and they saddle my beasts,
"Saddle my beasts," and they saddle them,
Then I say, 'Remove the saddles; I have changed my mind'?
Then I say, "Remove the saddles, that's enough."

دائِمَ النوكِ مِن عَظيمِ المُحالِ
Ravings, as you see, and idle chatter,
This is nonsense, as you see, and excess,
Ever foolish, among grand impossibilities.
Endlessly chewing on the impossibles.
