Yours is praise, a praise we delight in uttering,

although I cannot reckon all praise or thanks.

Yours is praise, pure praise that fills the sky,

and its reaches, the earth, the land, and the sea.

Yours is praise, abiding in reverence for Your countenance,

Yours is praise, the sweetest praise, of which You are worthy,

in every circumstance, embracing the hidden and the open.

Yours is praise, unbroken and without end,

and You, my God—how deserving, how worthy!

Yours is praise, O Possessor of Majesty; whoever is

thankful through praising You has indeed attained gratitude.

Yours is praise, a praise no reckoner can number.

Can pebbles, plants, sand, and raindrops be counted?

Yours is praise, multiplied many times, for

the subtle mercies in what is sweet to us and what is bitter.

Yours is praise—how worthy You are of praise and acclaim—

for blessings You have followed with blessings in succession.

and You have taught us verse and prose in Your praise.

Yours is praise, a praise we seek as a means

to You, for the renewal of gracious favors and glad tidings.

Yours is praise; how many favors You have strung about our necks,

and You have given us ease in place of hardship, O my Master.

Yours is praise; from how many stumbles You have raised us,

and for how many a lapse You have clothed us in a concealing veil.

Yours is praise; how often You have favored me and raised me

in rank above my peers among the sons of my age.

Yours is praise, a praise in which I find my drink and watering place,

when hopes fail in the dust-gray year.

Yours is praise, a praise that effaces poverty with wealth,

if You choose, O my Master, poverty after wealth.

My God, enfold me in Your mercy, which

is vast, and through which You have lavished goodness upon creation.

And with a spirit from You, strengthen my weakness and my resolve

to bear poverty; forgive my lapse and accept my excuse.

For, as to managing my affairs and my own resourcefulness,

I renounce them before You, together with my might and strength.

And guard my dignity from humiliating begging,

and from the injustice of time, whose sweetness has always been bitter.

And be gentle with my little children and their siblings, for

calamities have struck them beyond their power to endure.

They are accustomed to goodness, and goodness abounds

with You; no, by God, they have never known evil.

so renew for them, from Your bounty, the verdant blessing.

And against the trials of this world and the next, watch over them

with goodness, and by Your grace prepare them for the way of ease.

And grant me to them, striving hard to provide for them

for Your countenance, and prolong my life in obedience to You.

And after a life in Your good pleasure, take me in death

upon the white faith and the radiant Sunna.

And in the grave, soothe my desolation [in] my solitude,

for the grave's dweller finds the grave a lonely place.

And if those gathered for resurrection are overwhelmed at the standing-place

where, through You, books are given into right hands and left,

and My forgiveness; fear neither misery nor harm.'

And for my sake honor those close to me in kinship

and friendship; relieve our distress and forgive the burden of sin.

And leave me no lingering attachment to what I have intended,

nor any great need, nor any small need.

And send blessings upon the soul of the beloved Muhammad,

praiseworthy in his endeavors, following in the footsteps of Mudar the Red:

blessings and salutations upon him, and mercy,

blessed and growing until they embrace all time,

and encompass all his family as long as the east wind blows,

and as long as riders travel through the radiant night.
