مقيل العاثرين أَقل عثارى

وَخذلي من بَني زمني بثاري

وَخذلي من بَني زمني بثاري

O You who raise the stumbling, lift me from my fall.

And avenge me upon the sons of my age.

وَجملتي بعافية وَعَفو

وَجملتي بعافية وَعَفو

من الأَمراض وَالعلل الطواري

من الأَمراض وَالعلل الطواري

And [bless] my whole being with health and pardon,

From diseases and ailments that arise unexpectedly.

فغم البَلغَم اِستَوفى نَعيمي

فغم البَلغَم اِستَوفى نَعيمي

وَمقدم ام ملدم لفح نار

وَمقدم ام ملدم لفح نار

For the anguish of phlegm has consumed all my comfort,

And the coming of Umm Mildam, the fever, is a blast of fire.

اذاب حَماؤُها لَحمي وَعَظمي

اذاب حَماؤُها لَحمي وَعَظمي

وَلست من الحَديد وَلا الحجار

وَلست من الحَديد وَلا الحجار

Its feverish heat melted my flesh and my bones,

And I am not made of iron or stone.

فَيا فردا بلا ثان اجرني

فَيا فردا بلا ثان اجرني

بعز علاك من ثان ودار

بعز علاك من ثان ودار

So, O Unique One without a second, protect me

By the might of Your exaltedness, from what bends and turns.

وَلا تشمت بي الاعداء وانظر

وَلا تشمت بي الاعداء وانظر

اليّ برحمة نظر اختيار

اليّ برحمة نظر اختيار

And do not let my enemies gloat over me; look

Upon me with mercy, with a gaze of favor.

فَقَد هَتَكوا حماى وعاندوني

فَقَد هَتَكوا حماى وعاندوني

على نعم تدر عَلى دِياري

على نعم تدر عَلى دِياري

For they have violated my sanctuary and defied me

Over blessings that flow upon my dwellings.

وان تضرري وَعناي منهم

وان تضرري وَعناي منهم

نظير تذللي لك واِفتِقاري

نظير تذللي لك واِفتِقاري

And indeed my hurt and suffering at their hands

Are matched by my humility before You and my need.

فان يخسر بسوقهم اتجاري

فان يخسر بسوقهم اتجاري

ففضلك سوق أَرباح التجاري

ففضلك سوق أَرباح التجاري

If my trading in their market brings a loss,

Then Your bounty is a market where merchants profit.

وان يك عقنى صحبي وَجاري

وان يك عقنى صحبي وَجاري

فَجودك بالَّذي أَرجوه جاري

فَجودك بالَّذي أَرجوه جاري

And if my companions and my neighbor have forsaken me,

Your generosity flows with what I hope for.

واني بعت حين عرفت دَهري

واني بعت حين عرفت دَهري

خيار بَني الزَمان بلا خيار

خيار بَني الزَمان بلا خيار

And when I understood my age, I sold

The best sons of the age, with no option to revoke the sale.

لانهم ذياب في ثياب

لانهم ذياب في ثياب

فَيالي من شرار في شرار

فَيالي من شرار في شرار

For they are wolves in clothing.

Alas for me, beset by wicked men amid the wicked!

فَكَم لحم شووه بغير نار

فَكَم لحم شووه بغير نار

وعرض مزقوه بلا شغار

وعرض مزقوه بلا شغار

How much flesh they have roasted without fire,

And honor they have torn apart without reciprocal exchange [sense unclear].

وَكَم نَصَبوا العداوَةَ لي بكيد

وَكَم نَصَبوا العداوَةَ لي بكيد

فكادوا يهدمون به جدار

فكادوا يهدمون به جدار

And how often they set up enmity against me with guile,

So that with it they almost brought down a wall.

فَهَل لَك يا خَفي اللطف لطف

فَهَل لَك يا خَفي اللطف لطف

يعود عَلى اِحتسابي واِصطِباري

يعود عَلى اِحتسابي واِصطِباري

Have You, O You whose kindness is hidden, a kindness

That will answer my hope for Your reward and my patient endurance?

فأَتَت بنيتها سبعا شِدادا

فأَتَت بنيتها سبعا شِدادا

يغرين جوّها شهب سواري

يغرين جوّها شهب سواري

Then its structure emerged as seven mighty [heavens].

Night-traveling meteors incite its sky [wording unclear].

وَمهدت الأَراضي من نجود

وَمهدت الأَراضي من نجود

دَبيبَ النَمل في ظلم المَجاري

دَبيبَ النَمل في ظلم المَجاري

And You leveled the lands, from the uplands...

The creeping of ants in the darkness of passageways.

وَسخرت البحار السبع نجرى

وَسخرت البحار السبع نجرى

بها الأَفلاك من غادو ساري

بها الأَفلاك من غادو ساري

And You subjected the seven seas; we set sailing

Upon them the ships, some morning-bound and some night-bound.

وانشأت السحاب وَلا سَحاب

وانشأت السحاب وَلا سَحاب

واذريت الرياح وَلا ذراري

واذريت الرياح وَلا ذراري

And You created clouds when there were no clouds,

And You scattered the winds, and there were no offspring [sense unclear].

جعلت الشمس خلف البدر تَسعى

جعلت الشمس خلف البدر تَسعى

كَسعي اللَيل في طرف النهار

كَسعي اللَيل في طرف النهار

You made the sun run behind the full moon,

As night runs along the edge of day.

وَتَعلم كل خائنة وَتَدري

وَتَعلم كل خائنة وَتَدري

دَبيبَ النَمل في ظلم المَجاري

دَبيبَ النَمل في ظلم المَجاري

And You know every treachery, and perceive

The creeping of ants in the darkness of passageways.

وَتمسك في الهَواء الطير بسطا

وَتمسك في الهَواء الطير بسطا

وَقبضا في رواح واِبتِكاري

وَقبضا في رواح واِبتِكاري

And You hold the birds in the air, with wings spread

And folded, in evening and early-morning flight.

وَتكفل كل وحش في البَراري

وَتكفل كل وحش في البَراري

وَترزق كل حوت في البحار

وَترزق كل حوت في البحار

And You care for every wild beast in the wilderness,

And provide for every fish in the seas.

وَكَم من نعمة غذَت البرايا

وَكَم من نعمة غذَت البرايا

يَراها من محل الخلق باري

يَراها من محل الخلق باري

And how many blessings have nourished creatures,

The Creator sees them from creation's abode [wording unclear].

كَريم منعم بر روف

مقيل العاثرين من العثار

مقيل العاثرين من العثار

Generous, beneficent, kind, compassionate,

Lifting the stumbling out of their falls.

الهى عافنى واصح جِسمي

الهى عافنى واصح جِسمي

وَصل واقبل برحمتك اِعتِذاري

وَصل واقبل برحمتك اِعتِذاري

My God, heal me and make my body sound,

And bestow blessings, and in Your mercy accept my apology.

وَطهر قالبي وَتغش قَلبي

وَطهر قالبي وَتغش قَلبي

بانوار السَكينة والوقار

بانوار السَكينة والوقار

And cleanse my bodily frame and enfold my heart

In the lights of tranquility and dignity.

وان كررت مشلتي فكلني

وان كررت مشلتي فكلني

إِلى كرم يَفيض بلا انحصار

إِلى كرم يَفيض بلا انحصار

And if I repeat my request, entrust me

To a generosity that overflows without limit.

فتحت يدى أَطفال صغار

فتحت يدى أَطفال صغار

فهبني للأَطفال الصِغار

فهبني للأَطفال الصِغار

For under my care are little children,

So spare me for the little children.

أُجاهِد فيك محتسبا عليهم

أُجاهِد فيك محتسبا عليهم

وأبذل فيك جُهدي واِقتِداري

وأبذل فيك جُهدي واِقتِداري

I strive for Your sake, seeking reward on their behalf,

And expend for Your sake my effort and my ability.

وَتَيسير الامور عليك دونى

وَتَيسير الامور عليك دونى

ففرج هم عسرى باليَسار

ففرج هم عسرى باليَسار

And making affairs easy rests with You, not with me;

So relieve the worry of my hardship with ease.

ومن على يوم الكتب تقرا

ومن على يوم الكتب تقرا

وَتعطى باليَمين وَباليَسار

وَتعطى باليَمين وَباليَسار

And favor me on the day when the books are read

And are given into the right hand and the left.

وَعافَ أَبو السعود أَخص صحبي

وَعافَ أَبو السعود أَخص صحبي

من الجرح الَّذي يصلى بنار

من الجرح الَّذي يصلى بنار

And heal Abu al-Suʿud, the closest of my companions,

From the wound that is scorched with fire.

وكن لِدَخيل علته طَبيبا

وكن لِدَخيل علته طَبيبا

بِلا نار وَلا طول اِنتظار

بِلا نار وَلا طول اِنتظار

And be a physician to the inward cause of his ailment,

Without fire or a long wait.

فانك ان لطفت به تعافى

فانك ان لطفت به تعافى

وَعاد بلطف صنعك وَهُوَ باري

وَعاد بلطف صنعك وَهُوَ باري

For if You show him kindness, he will recover

And return, through Your kindly working, fully healed.

وَقل عَبد الرَحيم وَمن يَليه

وَقل عَبد الرَحيم وَمن يَليه

من المحن العَظيمة في جواري

من المحن العَظيمة في جواري

And release Abd al-Rahim and those near him

From great afflictions in my neighborhood.

وَصل عَلى النَبي وتابعيه

وَصل عَلى النَبي وتابعيه

وعترته الخيار بَني الخيار

وعترته الخيار بَني الخيار

And bless the Prophet and his followers,

And his kin, the chosen sons of the chosen.

فمدح محمد شرفي وَعزى

فمدح محمد شرفي وَعزى

وَجاهى في العَشائِر واِفتِخاري

وَجاهى في العَشائِر واِفتِخاري

For praising Muhammad is my honor and my glory,

And my standing among the clans and my pride.
