My night at Thahmad has grown long after Layla.
My night prolonged after Layla out of grief,
Long estrangement scorched my heart—alas, my liver!
And the length of separation burnt my heart and liver.

Layla's phantom traveled by night and settled at my resting place,
The specter of Layla came and calmed in my bed.
