بمحمد خطر المحامد يعظم

وَعقود تيجان العقود تنظم

Through Muhammad, the stature of praise grows great.

And the necklaces of the crowns of necklaces are strung.

وَله الشَفاعة وَالمقام الاعظم

يوم القلوب لَدى الحَناجر كظم

His are intercession and the greatest station,

on the day when hearts are at the throats, choked with anguish.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

قمر تفرد بالكَمال كماله

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

A moon whose perfection stands alone in completeness.

وَحَوى المَحاسن حسنه وَجماله

وَتَناول الكرم العَريض نواله

His loveliness and beauty encompass all lovely qualities.

His bounty embraces far-reaching generosity.

وَحَوى المفاخر فخره المتقدم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

His preeminent glory encompasses every distinction.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

وَاللَه ما ذرأ الاله وَلابرا

بشرا وَلا ملكا كأحمد في الورى

And by God, the Deity has neither brought forth nor fashioned

a human or an angel like Ahmad among creation.

فَعَليه صَلى اللَه ما قلم جرى

وَجلا الدياجي نوره المتبسم

So may God bless him as long as a pen runs

and his smiling light dispels the darkness of night.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

طلعت عَلى الآفاق شمس وجوده

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

The sun of his existence rose over the horizons,

بالخير في أَغواره وَنجوده

فالخلق تَرعى ريف رآفة جوده

bringing goodness to its lowlands and highlands.

Creation grazes in the fertile fields of his tender generosity,

كرما وَجارحنا به لا يهضم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

in bounty; and through him our assailant is not wronged [wording uncertain].

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

سور المثانى من حروف ثنائه

وَمحامد الاسماء من أَسمائه

The chapters of the Oft-Repeated are among the letters of his praise,

and the praises of names come from his names.

فالرسل تحشر تحت ظل لوائه

يوم المعاد وَيستَجير المجرم

The messengers are gathered beneath the shade of his banner

on the day of return, when the sinner seeks refuge.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

والكون مبتهج بهاء بهائه

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

The universe rejoices in the hāʾ of his splendor,

وَبجيم نحدته وَفاء وَفائه

فلسر سيرته وَسين سنائه

and in the jīm of his valor and the fāʾ of his faithfulness.

For the secret of his conduct and the sīn of his radiance

شرف يَطول وعروة لا تقصم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

there is enduring honor and a bond that cannot be broken.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

البدر محتقر بطلعة بدره

وَالنجم يقصر عَن مراتب قدره

The full moon is humbled by the appearance of his full moon.

The star falls short of the ranks of his worth.

ما أَسعَد المتلذذين بذكره

في يوم تعرض للعظام جهنم

How fortunate are those who delight in remembering him

on the day when Hell is displayed before the bones.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

دهشته أَخطار النبوة في حرا

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

The weighty matters of prophethood bewildered him in Hira.

فأتى خَديجة باهتا متحيرا

فحكت خديجة لابن توفل ماجرا

He came to Khadija astonished and perplexed.

Then Khadija told Ibn Tawfal what had happened

من شأن أَحمد اذغدت تسنفهم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

concerning Ahmad, when she went to seek an explanation.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

قالَت أَناه السبع في المتعبد

برسالة أقرأ باسم ربك وابتد

She said, '[Unclear] came to him in his place of worship,

with the message: Read in your Lord’s name, and begin.

فأجاب لست بقارىء من مولدى

فَثنى عليه اقرأ وَرَبُكَ أَكرَم

He answered: I have not been a reader since my birth.

Then he repeated to him: Read; your Lord is most generous.'

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

قال ابن نوفل ذاك يؤثر عن نبي

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

Ibn Nawfal said, 'That is reported of a prophet

ينشا بمكة وَالمقام بيثرب

سَيَقوم بين مصدق وَمكذب

who arises in Mecca and has his dwelling in Yathrib.

He will stand among believers and deniers.

وَستكثر القَتلى وَينسفك الدم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

The slain will be many, and blood will be shed.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

هَذى عَلامته وَهذا نعته

وَالوَقت في الكتب القَديمة وَقته

This is his sign, and this is his description.

The time recorded in the ancient books is his time.

وَلَو أَنَّني أَدركته لاطعته

وَخدمته مع من يطيع وَيخدم

If I lived to see him, I would obey him

and serve him with those who obey and serve.'

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

قالَت له فمني يَكون ظهوره

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

She said to him, 'Then when will he appear [reading uncertain],

وَبأى شيء تَستَقيم أَموره

قال المَلائكة الكِرام ظَهيره

and through what will his affairs prosper?'

He said, 'The noble angels are his support,

وَالبيض ترجف وَالقَنا يَتَحَطَم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

while bright swords tremble and spears shatter.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

وَعَلى تمام الاربعين سَتَنجَلي

شمس النبوّة لِلنَبي المرسل

When forty years are complete, there will shine forth

the sun of prophethood for the prophet sent,

بِمَكارِم الاخلاق وَالشرف العلي

فَسَناه ينجد في البلاد وَيتهم

with noble character and lofty honor.

His radiance will reach Najd and Tihama throughout the lands.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

وَمن العلامة يوم يبعث مرسلا

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

Among the signs, on the day he is sent as a messenger,

لَم يَبقَ من حجر وَلا مدرولا

نجم وَلا شجر وَلا وحش الفلا

no stone will remain, nor clod, nor

star, tree, or beast of the wilderness,

الا يصلى مفصحا وَيسلم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

without plainly invoking blessings and greeting him with peace.'

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

فَعَليه صَلى اللَه كل عشية

وَضحى وَحياه بكل تحيَّة

May God bless him every evening

and forenoon, and greet him with every greeting

تهدى لخير الخلق خير هداية

وَتعزه وَتجله وَتكرم

offered to the best of creation as the finest guidance,

honoring, exalting, and dignifying him.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

طمس الضلال نور حق بين

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

The light of manifest truth effaced error.

وَدَعا العباد إِلى السَبيل الاحسن

وَلربما صدم الطغاة فينثَني

He called humankind to the finest path.

Often he charged against tyrants, then returned,

وَالقَوم صَرعى وَالمَغانِم تقسم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

with the enemy fallen and the spoils divided.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

سقت نبوّته وآدم طينة

بوجود سرو وجوده معجونة

His prophethood preceded [reading uncertain], while Adam was clay,

kneaded with the presence of his being’s nobility.

فيها المَناصِب والاصول مصونة

وَقُرَيش أَرحام لديه وَمحرم

In it, ranks and lineages are safeguarded.

Quraysh are his blood relations and inviolable kin.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

وَقبائِل الانصار خيل جهاده

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

The tribes of the Ansar are the cavalry of his struggle,

وَولاة نصر جداله وَجلاده

وردوا الردى في اللَه وفق مراده

and leaders in supporting his contest and combat.

They met death in God’s cause, according to his wish.

وَغدوا وَراحوا وَهُوَ راض عنهم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

They went forth morning and evening, while he was pleased with them.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

طوبى لعبد زار مشهد طيبة

وَجلا بنور القَلب ظلمة غيبة

Blessed is the servant who visits Tayba’s shrine

and dispels the darkness of absence with the heart’s light.

يَدنوا وَيَبتَدىء السَلام بهيبة

وَيمس ترب الهاشمي وَيلثم

He draws near and begins his greeting in awe.

He touches the Hashemite’s soil and kisses it.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

قبر يحط الوزر مسح ترابه

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

A grave whose soil, when stroked, removes sin’s burden,

وَيَنال زائره عَظيم ثوابه

لَم لا وسر المرسلين ثوى به

and whose visitor gains its immense reward.

Why not, when the mystery of the messengers rests there—

قمر المحامد وَالروف الارحم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

the moon of praises, the compassionate, the most merciful?

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

هطلت لعزته السحاب وَظللت

وَكَذا الرياح بنصر أَحمد أرسلت

The clouds poured down for his glory and gave shade.

Likewise, the winds were sent to aid Ahmad.

وَعَليه سلمت الغَزال وَأَقبَلَت

تَشكو كنطق العضو وَهو مسمم

The gazelle greeted him with peace and approached,

complaining, like the speech of the limb while it was poisoned.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

وَالثدى فاضكَفَيضِ نهر يمينه

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

The breast overflowed like the river of his right hand.

وَالسهم عَن ثمد سما بمعينه

وَالجذع أَفهم شوقه بحنينه

The arrow rose from a scant pool with its springwater.

The trunk made its longing understood through its moaning.

وَبكفه صم الحصى تتكلم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

In his palm the mute pebbles speak.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

وَقريش اذعزم الرَحيل مهاجرا

ملؤا المسالك راصدا وَمشاجرا

When he resolved to depart as an emigrant, Quraysh

filled the routes with watchers and challengers.

فَمَضى لحاجته وَلَم يرحاجرا

وَالقَوم يَقظى وَالبَصائِر نوّم

Yet he went on his errand and saw no hindrance,

though the people were awake and their perceptions asleep.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

نثر التراب عَلى رؤس الحسد

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

He scattered dust upon the heads of the envious

وَسَرى وَقَد وَقَفوا له بالمرصد

قولوا لاعمى العين مَغلول اليد

and traveled by night while they stood in ambush for him.

Say to the blind-eyed, fettered-handed one:

أَنف الشفى ببغض أَحمد مرغم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

The wretched man’s nose is rubbed in dust for hating Ahmad [reading uncertain].

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

لَما رأى الغر اِنثَنى متوجها

فرقت وراه قريش زاخر لجها

When he saw the cave, he turned toward it.

Behind him Quraysh spread its surging, deep sea.

وَبنت عليه العَنكَبوت بنسجها

وَبيضها سخت الحمام الحوّم

The spider built over him with its weaving,

and the circling doves freely bestowed their eggs.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

ملأت محاسنه الزَمان فأفرعت

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

His virtues filled all time, so there branched forth

شجر الهَداية في الجهات وَأَينَعَت

وَتَلَوَّنَت ثمراتها وَتَنوعّت

trees of guidance in every direction, and they ripened.

Their fruits took on many colors and many kinds.

فالكل فير بركاته يتنعم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

All luxuriate in his blessings.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

سرت البراق له لموجب نية

واشارة في الغيب بانية

Buraq traveled by night for him in response to an intention

and a formative sign in the unseen.

وَسَرى الحَبيب سمير وحدانية

طابَ المَسير بها وَطابَ المقدم

The Beloved traveled by night, the intimate companion of divine Oneness.

Sweet was the journey upon it, and sweet the arrival.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

من بعد ما قد جاز سدرة منتهى

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

After he had passed the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary,

وَحَبيبه جبريل في السيرانتهى

فخرت بموطىء نعله حجب البها

and his beloved Gabriel had reached the end of his journey,

the veils of splendor gloried in the tread of his sandal.

فالنور يسطع وَالبَشائِر تقدم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

Light shone forth, and glad tidings advanced.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

وَالأَرض تبهج وَالسَموات العلى

وَعَروس مكة بالكَرامة تجتلى

The earth rejoices, and the lofty heavens.

Mecca’s bride is unveiled in honor.

وَالعرش بالضَيف النَزيل قد امتلا

كرما وَضيف الاكرمين مكرم

The Throne, with its visiting guest, was filled

with generosity; the guest of the most generous is honored.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

سبقت عنايته لسبق عناية

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

Care for him came first, owing to prior care.

فرقى الى ذى العرش أبعد غاية

وَرأى من الآيات أَكبر آية

He ascended to the Lord of the Throne, to the farthest goal.

Among the signs he saw the greatest sign,

عظمت وأيدها الكتاب المحكم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

mighty, and affirmed by the unambiguous Book.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

فَلِسان حال القرب يَهتف مرحبا

بقدوم محترم الجناب المجتَبى

The voice of nearness cries, 'Welcome

to the arrival of the chosen one, whose dignity is revered.

سلني بحقك ما أَحق وَأَوجبا

بخلاف من يعطى سواك وَيحرم

Ask Me, by your right, for what is most fitting and binding,

unlike those other than you, who are given and denied.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

سل تعط يا من لَيسَ ينطق عَن هَوى

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

Ask and be given, O you who do not speak from desire.

وأفد وأرسد بالهداية من غوى

فَلك الفَضيلة وَالوَسيلة وَاللوا

Give benefit, and guide with guidance those who have strayed.

Yours are preeminence, the means of approach, and the banner,

وَالحَوض وَهُوَ الكوثر المتلطم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

and the Pool—the surging Kawthar.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

فاشرب شراب الانس كاف كفايتي

وَسلاف سالف عصمتي وَهدايَتي

Drink the draught of intimacy, the kāf of My sufficiency,

and the purest wine of My prior protection and guidance.

وانظر بعين عنايتي وَوقايتي

واحكم بِما تَرضى فأَنتَ محكم

Look with the eye of My care and protection.

Judge as you please, for you are empowered to judge.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

شرفت قدرك بي وضدك أَحقر

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

I have ennobled your rank through Me, and your foe is more abject.

وَرفعت ذكرك حيث اذكر تذكر

فَعَليك أَلوية الولاية تنشر

I have raised your remembrance: wherever I am mentioned, you are mentioned.

Over you the banners of divine friendship are unfurled.

وَبعمرك الوحي المنزل يقسم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

The revelation sent down swears by your life.

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

وَلَك الشَفاعة أَحرزت لتنالها

وَعَليك كل المرسلين أَحالها

Intercession is yours, secured for you to attain.

All the messengers referred it to you.'

فسجدت مفتخرا وَقلت أَنالها

جاهى وَحبل وَسيلَتي لا يصرم

So you prostrated proudly and said, 'I shall attain it.

My standing and the cord of my mediation cannot be severed.'

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

يا خير مَبعوث لا كرم أمة

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

O best messenger sent to the noblest nation,

أَنتَ المؤمل عند مل ملمة

فاعطف عَلى عَبدالرَحيم برحمة

you are the one hoped for in every calamity.

Turn with mercy toward Abd al-Rahim,

فغمام فضلك فيضه متمجم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

for the cloud of your grace has an outpouring that is [unclear].

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

فانهض به وَبِمَن يليه صحابة

وَصهارة وَنسابة وَقَرابَة

Raise him up, and those linked to him in companionship,

by marriage, lineage, and kinship.

واجعل لدعوته القبول اجابة

فيجاه وجهك يُستَغاث وَيرحم

Make acceptance the answer to his prayer.

Through the dignity of your face, aid is sought and mercy granted.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

وابن الوَهيب أَجِب سميك أَحمدا

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

Answer Ibn al-Wahib, your namesake Ahmad,

واغثه في الدارين يا علم الهدى

واجمع بنيه ومن يلوذ به غدا

and aid him in both abodes, O banner of guidance.

Gather his sons and those who seek refuge with him tomorrow.

فَلأنتَ حصن للسممى وَملزم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

For you are indeed a fortress for the namesake and a refuge [wording uncertain].

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

وَعَلَيكَ صَلى ذو الجَلال وَسلما

وَهدى وَزكى واِرتَضى وَترحما

May the Lord of Majesty bless you and grant you peace,

guide, purify, approve, and show mercy,

ما غردت ورق الحَمائم في الحمى

وَسَرى عَلى عَذب العَذيب نَسيم

as long as gray doves warble in the sanctuary

and a breeze passes over the sweet waters of al-Udhayb.

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

وَعَلى صحابتك الكِرام الأَتقيا

So, for his sake, invoke blessings and peace upon him.

And upon your noble, God-fearing companions,

أَهل الديانة والامانة وَالحَيا

وَكَذا السَلام عليهم وَعليك يا

people of faith, trustworthiness, and modesty.

Likewise, peace be upon them and upon you, O

نورا عَلى الآفاق لا يَتَكَتَم

فَبحقه صَلوا عليه وَسلموا

light across the horizons that never hides itself.
