إذا الفُجّارُ أَطغاهُمْ غِناهُمْ

إذا الفُجّارُ أَطغاهُمْ غِناهُمْ

فعامُهُمُ بهِ عامُ الفِجارِ

فعامُهُمُ بهِ عامُ الفِجارِ

When their wealth makes the wicked overweening,

When the wicked become arrogant through wealth

Then, through it, their year becomes the year of al-Fijār.

Their time becomes like the time of the wicked

فيفجَؤُهمْ بأرماحٍ طِوالٍ

فيفجَؤُهمْ بأرماحٍ طِوالٍ

ويفجعُهُمْ بأعمارٍ قِصارِ

ويفجعُهُمْ بأعمارٍ قِصارِ

It takes them unawares with long spears,

So it surprises them with long spears

And brings them grief with lives cut short.

And saddens them with short lives

فمن دامي الكعوبِ بذي كعوبٍ

فمن دامي الكعوبِ بذي كعوبٍ

مَخضوبِ الفقارِ بذي الفقارِ

مَخضوبِ الفقارِ بذي الفقارِ

So some have ankles bloodied by a jointed spear,

So whoever subjugates the people with cruelty

Their spines stained by Dhū al-Fiqār.

Will have his spine bloodied by cruelty
