زمانُthe time of الصباyouth موسمٌa season للتّصابيfor youthful frolic
زمانُ الصبا موسمٌ للتّصابي
يمرُّpasses عليكَover you مرورَlike the passing of السّحابِthe clouds
يمرُّ عليكَ مرورَ السّحابِ
The time of youth is a season for youthful frolic.
The days of youth are a season for folly
It passes over you as clouds pass.
They pass you by like the clouds
ستدفنُyou will be buried عنfrom كثبٍnearness فيin الترابِthe dust
ستدفنُ عن كثبٍ في الترابِ
فلِمْso why تدفنُdo you bury المالَthe wealth تحتَbeneath الترابِthe dust
فلِمْ تدفنُ المالَ تحتَ الترابِ
You will soon be buried in the dust.
You will soon be buried in dust
So why bury your wealth beneath the dust?
Why then bury wealth under dust
وليسَand not يسوغُgoes down easily بَرودُcool الشّرابthe drink
وليسَ يسوغُ بَرودُ الشّراب
إذاwhen ماan emphatic particle خلعتَyou have cast off بُرودَthe robes of الشَبابِyouth
إذا ما خلعتَ بُرودَ الشَبابِ
And cool drink will not go down easily
When the chill of drink is indecent
once you have cast off the robes of youth.
If you have shed the chill of youth
