قلْ لهارونَ قد علاكَ اصفرارٌ
شاهدٌa witness بالبغاءِto prostitution ماno فيهin it بَهْتُfalse accusation
شاهدٌ بالبغاءِ ما فيه بَهْتُ
Tell Harun: a yellow pallor has come over you—
Tell Haroun his jaundice betrays
a witness to prostitution, with no false accusation in it.
His whoring, though he may deny it
قدindeed رأيناكَwe saw you فيin الكرىslumber فسُررناso we rejoiced
قد رأيناكَ في الكرى فسُررنا
لمْwhy? لأنَّbecause الحمارَthe donkey فيin النّومِsleep بَخْتُgood luck
لمْ لأنَّ الحمارَ في النّومِ بَخْتُ
We saw you in a dream, and so we rejoiced.
We saw you out in the town at night
Why? Because a donkey in a dream is good luck.
Why not? Even an ass can dream and bray
