يا قومُ إني رجلٌ فاضِلٌ

يا قومُ إني رجلٌ فاضِلٌ

وليسَ في فضليَ منْ شكِّ

وليسَ في فضليَ منْ شكِّ

O people, I am indeed a virtuous man,

O people, I am a virtuous man

And there is no doubt about my virtue.

Of that there is no doubt

أَهوى كؤوسَ الرّاحِ مملوءةً

أَهوى كؤوسَ الرّاحِ مملوءةً

وأشتهي الإيلاجَ في التّركِ

وأشتهي الإيلاجَ في التّركِ

I love cups filled with wine,

I love cups of wine filled up

And I desire to penetrate the Turks.

And desire to lounge on carpets

وأقضُم الفُنْدَ ولا أَشتكي

وأقضُم الفُنْدَ ولا أَشتكي

وآكلُ التّمرَ ولا أَبكي

وآكلُ التّمرَ ولا أَبكي

And I nibble al-fund (possibly sugar candy) without complaint,

I spend my money and do not complain

And I eat dates without weeping.

I eat dates and do not cry
