May my soul ransom you, O my moon and my sun.

And my today in loving you is like my yesterday.

You rose, and I nearly entered morning from the gleam

Of your brow before me; then your temple-lock said, “Enter evening.”

Come, and fill my years with morning,

With the rival of your rosy face, with five [fingers],

Upon the face of him who made my fingertips reap

Fruits of noble deeds, while he is my own planting.

So if you ask me who that is, I recite:

“And that is Muhammad—my soul would ransom him.”
