إن فاتَكَ الشرفُ الرفي

إن فاتَكَ الشرفُ الرفي

عُ وما استطعتَ بهِ لِحاقا

عُ وما استطعتَ بهِ لِحاقا

If lofty honor has eluded you,

If honor sublime escapes your grasp

and you have been unable to attain it,

Strive with all your might to catch its trail

فابْخلُ بمائِكَ أنْ يُرا

فابْخلُ بمائِكَ أنْ يُرا

قَ وجُدْ بخُبزكَ أنْ يُذاقا

قَ وجُدْ بخُبزكَ أنْ يُذاقا

then be sparing with your water, lest it be spilled,

Be miserly with your water, let none see it flow

and generous with your bread, that it may be tasted.

With your bread be generous, let all taste its fare
