قدindeed قلتُI said لمّاwhen فاقَsurpassed خطُّthe line عذارِهhis cheek-down
قد قلتُ لمّا فاقَ خطُّ عذارِه
فيin الحُسنِbeauty خَطَّthe handwriting يمينهِhis right hand المُستَملَحاdeemed lovely
في الحُسنِ خَطَّ يمينهِ المُستَملَحا
I said, when the line of down upon his cheek surpassed
I said, when the line of down on his cheek surpassed
in beauty the admired script of his right hand:
in beauty the admired handwriting of his right hand:
منَwhoever يكتبِwrites الخطَّthe script المليحَlovely لغيرِهِfor someone other than himself
منَ يكتبِ الخطَّ المليحَ لغيرِهِ
فلنفسهthen for himself لاno شكَّdoubt يكتُبhe writes أَملَحاlovelier
فلنفسه لا شكَّ يكتُب أَملَحا
“Whoever writes lovely script for another
“Whoever writes lovely script for another
for himself, without doubt, writes something lovelier.”
surely writes lovelier script for himself.”
